Ayurvedic Foods: Super Baby Power Balls!

The inspiration for this treat came recently, while making the Ojas Balls for a new mama client that I have been working with the last few months. My little guy is almost 11 months old, and LOVING all of the new foods he is being introduced to. His delight and amazement trigger such joy for me. Such a blessing to witness each of his discoveries. 

 

These ojas building foods according to ayurveda lead us to the healthiest glow you could ask for. The difference between this "healthy glow" and perhaps other cosmetic products that are marketed as bringing about that same quality, is that when it comes to certain foods eaten alongside simple ayurvedic lifestyle measures, then this "healthy glow" truly is built and comes from the deepest place inside. Its more than a physical glow, its an effect for the whole body, mind and spirit. 

 

These "ojas balls" are made with some of the strongest ojas building ingredients, according to the life science of ayurveda. And I decided I wanted to make them for my little guy. They've been a really big hit, and I'm sure will be a staple snack time request for years ahead. 

 

Ingredients:

1 cup raw almonds (soak these 6 hours, then pinch skin off)

¼ cup pumpkin seeds 

2 tbsp finely shredded coconut

4 pitted medjool dates 

1 tbsp organic melted ghee (grass fed if possible)

2 tbsp organic sun butter 

Pinch of orange zest  

Splash of coconut milk (if needed)     

 

Instructions:

First soak the almonds in water for 6 or more hours. Peel the skin off each almond after soaking (this is done by pinching the almond so the body of the nut slides out of the skin). Next put all ingredients into the food processor or vitamix and grind together to create a smooth consistency*. With wet hands (so that there is less of a sticky mess), roll into small yummy balls. You can then roll each ball into finely shredded coconut.  Once finished, let them rest in the refrigerator for an hour or two before serving.

 

*The New Mama version of this recipe calls for keeping some of the chunkiness, though for little ones, the smoother the easier.
